Jersey Petanque Club

With a welcome and briefing meeting on the evening of FRIDAY 22nd May starting with The JPC Doubles on SATURDAY 23rd May and SUNDAY 24th May and finishing with The Carrefour Triples on MONDAY 25th May.
The Jersey Petanque Club and the Carrefour Petanque Club are once again combining to present a weekend of Petanque. Due to the changes to the UK Bank Holidays introduced for the 75th Anniversary of VE Day and of course the Liberation of the Channel Islands we felt it appropriate to change our competitions to coincide with the end of the May Bank Holiday.
“It gives us very great pleasure to invite you to join us for our weekend of Petanque. Organised by two clubs over two venues and with a doubles and triples format we believe that once again this will be an excellent Open (or Opens!) and as in other years, we look forward to greeting both old and new visitors plus of course teams from all the Island’s Clubs. In a bid to simplify the paperwork this year there is one entry form and one payment whether you enter the Doubles, the Triples or both competitions.”
Edward Cuthbert and Michel Morel, Club Presidents
Venues: The welcome and briefing meeting plus the Doubles will be held at the JPC Les Quennevais Sports Centre St Brelade JE3 8LZ and the Triples at The Nicolle Centre, La Route de St Jean. St Lawrence JE3 1NE
The Competitions: These will be the same as last year and an outline is listed below.  The Doubles Open is over two days and please do remember this and teams “cannot” drop out after the first day as it upsets the whole organisation.  We appreciate that when entering many weeks before the competition a player may have to pull out before the competition starts and a substitution can be made up to the start of play on the Saturday. Once play starts on the Saturday, however, no substitutes will be allowed for the whole of the competition. However, for the Triples a fourth player is allowed and can be substituted once during any one game.
If you would like to enter either competition but do not have a partner(s) do contact us as on most occasions we can find one for you.
Friday 22nd May
A Vin d’Honneur will be held at our clubhouse where, over a glass of wine and a light bite we can meet and go through the weekend’s programme followed by the draw for the Doubles. A chance to renew old friendships and meet new competitors. We will start at about 6.00pm with refreshments and the briefing at 6.30pm.This should enable everyone to get away in time for dinner - and an early night. No need to book - just turn up.
Saturday 23rd May
Play will start at 9.15am on Saturday (and 9.30am on Sunday) with the check-in opening at 8.00am on both days. The competition will be “a Snake” and during the day each team will play 6 other teams. Refreshments will be on sale throughout the day but as we do not have a licence to sell alcohol you are welcome to bring your own, but alcohol is not permitted on the terrains and walkways.  At the end of the day we will collate the results into 4 groups. The top quarter to the Main, the second to the Plate, the third to Consolage 1 and those who have not had the best of days to Consolage 2.
Sunday 24th May
With a 9.30am start each team will play 3 games within their group and the top 4 teams will then go on to play for first, second, and equal third. Played in this way it does mean all the eliminated teams will be able to watch the finals and we hope play will finish by 5 o’clock.  This will be followed by the presentations and celebrated with a glass of refreshment and some nibbles. Refreshments will again be on sale throughout the day but again remember we do not have a licence to sell alcohol.
Monday 25th May
Play moves to Carrefour with a 9.00am start and registration from 8.00am. - the competition should finish by approximately 5.00pm.  Refreshments will again be on sale throughout the day but again remember we do not have a licence to sell alcohol.
As always, we will be very happy to talk over the phone or respond by email to any queries you may have and in addition we have listed below some queries that crop up regularly (with the answers!) and hope this will help you plan your weekend.

3. Is there a Dinner?
There is no official dinner but Jersey boasts a very wide range of excellent eateries - you’ll be spoiled for choice.
4.      Do we need a licence?
No licences are required to enter our competitions and play is governed by ‘The Official Rules of the Game of Petanque’.  The rulings of the Umpire and ‘Disputes Committee’ are final and enforced within five minutes.
